Welcome to ‘Hattie and friends’

A new range of inclusive resources for young children.

The range includes 4 story books, jigsaws, posters and colouring sheets, all featuring disabled characters.

Most story books for children do not include any disability in their illustrations. Children need to see disability to be able to accept it easily. They will often question any differences they notice and will accept simple explanations for them.

‘Hattie and friends’ offers the opportunity to discuss disability issues in a child friendly way. The characters are appealing and the themes used are easy for young children to relate to.

It is a way to show positive images of disability and shows children with different abilities enjoying activities together.

There are many features to promote learning including; colours, shapes, weather, animals, time, transport, seasons, texture and sound.

Some books may explain or highlight a disability.

In ‘Hattie and friends’ books the disability is purely incidental and not mentioned in the text. This means each character is accepted for who they are.

‘Hattie and friends’ is already being used in hundreds of Nurseries across the U.K. It is also popular with Childminders, Pre-schools and Libraries.
